why "art code" ?

In architecture, the facade of a building is often the most important from a design standpoint, as it sets the tone for the rest of the building. Art code is now being used by a new generation of architecture designers to explore innovative ways of generating form and translating ideas in a wide range of creative architectural disciplines

The Cullen by jackson clements burrows architects

Conceptually the idea was developed by abstracting the gardens beyond into a vertical landscape of green zinc cantilevered boxes.
Internally the boxes are finished in a shade of green to reinforce the idea of a landscape that is continuous from commercial road interface. On the commercial road facade, this idea is inverted as random ‘pockets’ of virtual landscape.
The scale and perceived depths of the balconies and windows are manipulated, reducing the building mass and referencing the turrets and datums in the surrounding context.

Penang Global City Center by asymptote architecture

The PGCC  is comprised of two iconic, sixty-story towers housing luxury residential units and five-star hotels, the penang performing arts center (penpac), a high-end retail and entertainment complex, an observatory, a world-class convention center and a vast public arena in the form of a plinth that serves as an entrance to the pgcc and connects it to the city beyond.
Set against the backdrop of the nature reserve of penang hill, the twisting, glass facades of the towers ‘perform’ various surface effects - reflecting, refracting and distorting views of penang, the surrounding landscape and the seascape beyond.
The vast, cascading plinth, which functions as a public plaza with multiple gathering spaces, are venues for the performing arts center, convention center and various facilities for residential, office and urban life.

Bella Sky Hotel by 3xn

danish architecture practice 3XN has completed 'bella sky hotel', a new landmark accommodation and conference center in copenhagen, denmark. situated between the old city core and orestad - copenhagen's growth center - the project is an extension of the bella center, and injects the site with a fresh urban identity.
consisting of two asymmetrical towers, the hotel's form is read in a completely different manner depending on the vantage point. the structure tapers down to a slim set of footprints and inclinesin opposite directions. as a result, all 814 rooms obtain an unobstructed view of the flat landscape.
serving as a visual landmark on the site, the towers are distinguished by a dynamic and graphic skin of white triangular panels. even from a great distance, the slightly pixelating effect is clearly read. the lobby, which merges into the existing entrance of the bella center, causes a twist of the ground floor, resulting in a dramatic street presence for the hotel.

The Ren Building shanghai's icon architecture

After the Beijing Olympics, everybody has seen many impressive architectures just like the Bird's Nest Stadium, the Water Cube and on. The Ren building is a proposal for a hotel, sports and conference center for the “Better City, Better Life” 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. The building is conceived as two buildings merging into one. The two buildings meet in a 1000 room hotel, a building for living.
Link to The Ren 3D Animation here. The first building, emerging from the water, is devoted to the activities of the body, and houses the sports and water culture center. The building becomes the Chinese sign for 'The People', and a recognizable landmark for the World Expo in China.
Link to Architect Designer here. The building takes its form from the Chinese character for person 人 (”ren”) and combines two buildings (one symbolic of mind and the other symbolic of body). We love the poetic inspiration that reflects both site and cultural sensitivity.

Coeur Mediterranee by jean paul viguier architecture

Situated in ‘la Joliette’, between the docks and l’avenue de Dunkerque, the project is the first building in a new generation of buildings, which undertake the renewal of the ‘Euro Méditerranée’ district.

The Coeur Méditerranée building is organised round a U-shaped plan and consists of an Ibis Hotel to the south wing, a Suite Hotel to the north wing, office and commercial space on the ground floor and an underground parking providing 387 parking spaces. The building skin is wrapped around the face of the building like a continuous ribbon, which is pierced on the south facing facades by a trapezoidal motif that evokes the maritime character of the town. The north facing facades are for the most part glazed and each bedroom contains a covered loggia with a sea view. A large covered entrance links l’avenue de Dunkerque with an internal garden and allows pedestrians to freely cross the building to go down to the Docks behind. This edifice, with its pure lines is characterised by the smooth white of the concrete and the softness of its material.
Its architecture assumes the new direction sought by the town of Marseille with regards to sustainable materials and environmental architecture.

Capital Gate at abu dhabi

A 160-metre tall, 35-storey known as Super Elite skyscraper.
The Guinness Book of World Records certified Capital Gate as the “World’s furthest leaning man-made tower.” Link to Capital Gate 3D Animation here
The new record shows that the Capital Gate tower has been built to lean 18 degrees westwards; more than four times that of the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The gravitational pressure caused by the 18-degree incline is countered by the world’s first “pre-cambered core”; a technique that utilizes 15,000 cubic meters of concrete reinforced with 10,000 tons of steel with the core deliberately built slightly off-center.

Capital Gate is also anchored to the Earth by 490 piles which are drilled over 30m deep.
